Frequently Asked Questions

What is Developin.com?

Developin is a platform for software developers and software projects where users can create subscriptions and receive funding towards their projects.

Who is Developin for?

It's built for independent developers and teams who want to offer access to code, features, and support in exchange for monthly subscriptions. You don't have to be a developer to support a project

How do I create a project?

Use the project creation page. You can import a GitHub repo, connect a private one, or start from scratch without one.

Do I need a GitHub account to use Developin?

No. Using GitHub is a great way to quickly set up a project, especially if your project is open-source and/or you would like to monetise access to it. Otherwise, you can just create a "closed" (closed source) project and continue creating your project.

Can I create a project without linking a GitHub repo?

Yes, just make sure you own the right to earn money from any project that you are representing.

Can I monetise access to my GitHub repository?

Yes, but you cannot monetise "viewing" access to public repositories since anyone can view it anyway. You can monetise "contributor" access to a public repo. With a private repo + project you can monetise both viewing and contributor access.

Can I manage multiple projects?

Yes — each project is created and managed independently under your account.

Can I import an open-source repo project and offer premium features?

Absolutely — you can offer discussions, DMs, roadmap access, or supporter-only perks.

Is there a fee to use Developin?

We take a small platform fee on paid subscriptions. There are no upfront costs to start. See our pricing page. page for more information.

What does it mean to 'follow' a user?

Much like any social network, 'Following' a user adds some of their latest activity to your personal "following" feed. You can also be notified about public updates, new projects, and announcements they post. It’s a great way to stay engaged without subscribing.

Do I need to subscribe to follow someone?

No — following is free. It simply keeps you updated on a creator’s public activity. To access private content or support a project financially, you’ll need a subscription.

Can I follow projects separately from creators?

Yes. You can follow a project directly and this will keep you updated of the latest updates via your notifications.

Will I get notified when a creator posts a new announcement?

Yes — followers and subscribers will receive in-platform notifications when a creator posts an announcement. Email notifications may also be sent depending on your preferences (but only an aggregated list of the latest few announcements, once a week).

When are announcements sent to users?

Announcements are delivered immediately to followers and subscribers via in-app notifications. If enabled, email delivery may occur within a few minutes.

Who can post announcements?

Only project owners and team members can post announcements. Moderators can reply but not post new announcements.

Are announcements public or private?

All announcements are public. To publish any private announcements, consider using the Private Discussions area and "pinning" the topic.

Can I turn off announcement notifications?

Yes — you can manage your notification preferences in your account settings to mute announcement emails or in-app alerts.

Can I comment on announcements?

Comments on announcements depend on the creator’s settings. Some announcements may be locked or read-only, while others allow open discussion.

How often can creators post announcements?

There are no hard limits, but excessive or spammy posting may result in moderation. Creators are encouraged to post meaningful, respectful updates.

Access to GitHub repos, private discussions, premium support, roadmap voting, DMs, and more.

Can I change my subscription tier?

Do you audit GitHub access?

We frequently check that users have the correct access to what they are subscribed to. Revoking access manually can result in either the platform or the user cancelling their subscription.

Can I use a private repo?

Yes — you can link a private repo for monetized projects. Subscribers will need access.

How does GitHub integration work?

We use GitHub OAuth to verify ownership and assign repo access to subscribers.
